太陽系の外で初めて見つかった惑星

天文学者達はハブル・天体望遠鏡で初めて直接太陽系の外の惑星を見、
撮影したと発表した。
                                                                  
その物体は地球から４５０光年離れたところにあり、太陽系で一番大きい
木星の２〜３倍の大きさがある。

これは大きな先例のない観察結果であるとある天体物理学者は言った。
過去に科学者達は他の惑星があると推察はしていたが、これは太陽系以外
に惑星があるということを証明したと思われる最初の写真であるとナサの
職員は言った。

FIRST PLANET OUTSIDE SOLAR SYSTEM SEEN:                           
WASHINGTON - Astronomers using the Hubble Space Telescope say they have,
for the first time, directly seen and photographed a planet outside 
the solar system. 
The object is about 450 light years away from Earth and is two to three
times the size of Jupiter, the largest planet in the solar system. 
"This is a major, unprecedented observation," one astrophysicist said. Though
scientists have been able in the past to infer other planets exist, 
this is the first picture that appears to show direct evidence of a 
planet outside the solar system, NASA officials said.
